Marguerite Humeau Helsingin taidemuseossa HAMissa

Kuva

Marguerite Humeau in Helsinki Art Museum HAM

Kuva
The exhibition of Marguerite Humeau, a French artist based in London, is located upstairs at HAM, next to the Ars Fennica exhibition. The space is defined by a square-shaped white canvas. In my opinion, Humeau’s works require a fairly intimate and enclosed setting in order to be presented in the best possible way. The canvas encloses some of the pieces and perhaps transforms the stark, lofty exhibition space into something more human in scale. The light globes near the ceiling, somewhat reminiscent of rice paper lamps, serve a similar purpose. The soundscape of the space is pleasant The floor-standing works are not cordoned off with ropes or marked in any way. This is undoubtedly the best solution for how the works are experienced. Of course, I also understand why the museum attendants wandered through the space looking alert. The materials of the artworks, often wax and glass, are not particularly impact-resistant. Humeau’s art requires a certain amount of contemplation. The layer...

The Hotel and Restaurant Museum, Taste Matters

Kuva
Many museums rely solely on the senses of sight and hearing. When walking through an exhibition, we look at objects, which are often inside glass display cases. Auditory experiences are usually provided in the form of a digital audio guide or a guided tour. The Hotel and Restaurant Museum, located at the Cable Factory, is in a good position as a museum because it engages more senses. Taste, scent, and taste memory can emerge, for example, when recalling childhood Christmas foods or grandmother's baking. The potential for an impactful experience is favorable; all of us have some connection and relationship with food and drink, and the memories and experiences associated with them You can read this text in Finnish from here Menu, Pohjanhovi, Rovaniemi, 1947. Hotel and Restaurant Museum The National Museum of Finland will be closed for several more years (according to the plan, until 2027) due to major renovation and expansion. One might not first think of the Hotel and Restaurant M...

"I started studying in 1966 at Lappeenranta Summer University. Lappeenranta was a charming summer city, and it also had a new, fascinating place to eat: Adriano's bar! Italian food was still completely new in Finland"  ( Museum's Food Tradition Survey) Read this text in Finnish here Dance pavilion culture continued in city restaurants. Kantakievari, Kurikka The Hotel and Restaurant Museum's permanent exhibition tells about the transformation of Finnish food culture that began in the 1960s. In the 1960s, people ate meat soup, macaroni casserole, meatloaf, pea soup, and sausage sauce at home. Alko's best-selling products were vodkas Koskenkorva, Jaloviina, and Vaakunaviina. Restaurant dishes included French fries, Coq au Vin, clarified consommé, and frozen desserts (parfaits/mousses). New restaurant types were Japanese and Greek restaurants, pizzerias, and establishments licensed to sell medium-strength beer (keskiolutravintolat). The 1970s brought English-st...
